Modern Courtesan

Modern Courtesan
Modern Courtesan

Founder, Kelly Isaac

How/Where did it all Begin?

I discovered there was a lack of really good quality themed costumes on the market whilst searching for a Santa dress one Christmas. I was living in New York with my husband at the time and everything I found looked tacky and cheap. I moved back to London in 2006 and The Modern Courtesan was launched in 2007.

How would you describe your Style?

Themed seduction apparel that is playful, not practical. The collections deliver a stylish, sophisticated and a fun new concept to customers while reflecting the lifestyles of today. The Modern Courtesan is all about the enjoyment of seduction, role play and pure decadence!

What Fabrics do you like to use and why?

99% of the pieces are made from the highest quality silk to very exacting standards. Additional details including tulles, netting, buttons and ribbons finish off the products perfectly.

Where do you draw your Inspiration from?

Initial ideas stem from occasions and characters which are then reinvented with imagination, wit and style! The first collections take inspiration from the scenes in chic Parisian hotels and behind closed doors in "the City" of London.

Have you had a chance to Travel?

I have travelled extensively be it for business or pleasure and lived in New York for some time. Hawaii is one of my favourite places. I have yet to go to Africa or India though plan to at some point.

Where is your Home Town and do you still live there?

I am originally from Aberdeen, although have spent most of my time living in London, so would consider it as home now. I love all the different cultures; I love living in the City. I live in Marylebone which has a very 'village' feel about it and then I am just a few minutes away from Oxford Street.

What is the best piece of Advice you’ve ever been given?

Live life to the max, believe in what you do and maintain a positive outlook as much as possible.

What is your Quirkiest Habit?

I do not like people walking on the left of me!

What is your Happiest Memory?

My wedding day. It was in New York but we kept it typically British. The best part was being surrounded by my friends who had travelled from far and wide to be there. It was quite an intimate affair with a band and a piper (me and my Scottish roots!) I loved the whole day.
