Founder, Kriss Soonik
How/Where did it all Begin?
I consider the start of the Kriss Soonik brand as we see it today, the beginning of year 2009 after I quit my dream job and decided to dedicate myself to my brand. To track back in time, it was about 6-7 years ago when I participated in a young designers competition designing womenswear back in my home country Estonia. After a few collections I accidentally found that what really excited me was lingerie. I gained good feedback for my designs and decided to take my creations to wider audiences. So I moved to London in 2005, I worked for other luxury lingerie brands to get an insight into the world of lingerie and completed my MA degree at LCF. So it has always been in me to do my own thing.
How would you describe your Style?
We are on a mission to give the "underwear as outerwear" concept a fresh and modern twist. When the traditional approach has been about corsets as eveningwear, Kriss Soonik has started a new wave – wearing velour gowns to a Sunday brunch. In 2009 the term "loungerie" was born. Loungerie is luxe loungewear at its freshest, blurring the boundaries with fashion. It is loungewear with an edge.
What Fabrics do you like to use and why?
I use everything from luxurious silk and chiffons to terry cotton and viscose jersey. My designs are very versatile. Different designs require different fabrics.
Have you had a chance to Travel?
I have been to most places in Europe, so I would like to take my travels further. At the moment I would like to go and discover America or just find a deserted beach anywhere in the world and lie there.
Where do you draw your Inspiration from?
Inspiration comes literally from everywhere and everything. I think my style is hugely influenced my Manga comics, superheroines and Jane Fonda in Barbarella.
Where is your Home Town and do you still live there?
I grew up in Tallinn, Estonia. At the moment I live in London. I consider both of them my home towns.
What is the best piece of Advice you've ever been given?
Everyone gets what he deserves.
What is your Quirkiest Habit?
I am addicted to Coca Cola. Probably have been for too long.
What is your Happiest Memory?
I have a lot of happy memories especially from my childhood but at the moment it has to be meeting my boyfriend for our first date in April and it was snowing in London!
